BIRDS

The Kafue National Park is a renowned birding destination. With over 500 species recorded, the park and surrounding GMAs are home to some serious ‘specials’. From the black-cheeked loverbirds in the far south through to the Pel’s fishing owl, African skimmer and Böhm’s bee-eater that we regularly see around Kaingu. The deck of our main area is a great place for sitting and watching for the Finfoot!

Our guides are experienced birders themselves, and we are lucky to have various habitats here with their occupants. Riverine forest where the Turracos are regularly seen, Miombo woodland where bird parties gather and of course the river with a huge variety of water birds. As keen bird photographers ourselves, we also construct small bee-eater and parrot hides. The Meyer’s parrot mud-eating frenzy is a unique spectacle, and our regular visiting skimmers provide intense photographic challenges.
